From college to photovoltaic solar parks. Get to know Sergio’s story!
In June 2022, just about to finish his bachelor´s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the field of Electric Mobility and Renewable Energies, Sérgio Couteiro arrived at Omexom to carry out his curricular internship. After 2 and a half months of internship, Sérgio joined our team and is now responsible for performing 2D photogrammetry, with a high-precision drone, controlling the progress of our solar photovoltaic projects.
Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
Hi, my name is Sérgio Couteiro, I’m 23 years old and I’ve been working at Omexom since August 11th, 2022. I am an electrical engineer with a specialization in renewable energies and electric mobility and I am part of Omexom Renewables, a business unit connected to turnkey projects EPC – Engeneering, Procurement and Construction for Photovoltaic Solar Power Plants. At the moment I am responsible for carrying out 2D photogrammetry with a high-precision drone, controlling the work progress, and I provide support to the electrical, civil, mechanical and quality works in the daily activities.
What motivated you to become an Electrical Engineer?
There were several factors that motivated me to follow a degree in the field of electrical engineering, however, what most impacted me was the enormous curiosity I always had in the world of technologies.
What adventures has Omexom already given you in the exercise of your functions?
I had the opportunity to attend the commissioning of the Faro Airport Photovoltaic Plant, the first photovoltaic power plant in Portuguese airports.
I also had the opportunity to take a training course on unmanned aircrafts (drones) and a training course on monitoring platforms for photovoltaic power plant.
Every day I have the possibility of being involved in the construction of a 50MW photovoltaic power plant which, itself, is the best adventure I could ask for.
What do you envision for yourself in the near future at Omexom?
Having the opportunity to keep working on Omexom Renewables’ projects, building photovoltaic solar parks and, in the future, working on a Green Hydrogen project.
Given our commitment towards the energy transition, what, in your opinion, are Omexom’s major challenges for the future?
To have a dynamic team and a resource management suited to the energy growth expected for Portugal in the coming years.
Another great challenge is to reduce carbon emissions during the course of the works.
In the end of 2022, Sérgio presented the activities developed during his internship and successfully completed his bachelor’s degree.
Together, for the energy transition challenge!
Committed to the ambitious challenge of the energy transition, more than 23.500 Omexom professionals around the world are committed to creating sustainable, safe, and efficient solutions. If you are as excited about the future of green energy as we are…
